Why do we need to educate kids about the abuse?
The main reason for educating the kids on the ill effect of drugs and alcohol is to stop them from getting attracted to it. These substances cause an irreversible effect on one’s mind and body. A study shows that the recovery from any substance or alcohol abuse is just at 10-12%, that means out of 100 only 10-12 people recover. For most people, the addiction relapses after recovery as when they go back after rehab their surroundings, people and satiation remains the same.
What is the role of schools in drug and alcohol addiction prevention?
As schools become one of the most vulnerable places for catching the addiction. Schools can educate the students about the ill effects
Set Up a committee to maintain a safe environment for the students
Have a councilor available to the students when needed.
Be approachable and show them you care.
How do you recognise the signs?
Educators can identify students who may be at risk for alcohol and drug use, and work with families to prevent these children from going down a harmful path.
Mood changes (e.g., flare-ups of temper, irritability, defensiveness)
Poor class attendance, low grades, and/ or behavior problems
Disregard for school rules
Memory lapses, poor concentration, bloodshot eyes, lack of coordination, or slurred speech
Switching friends and a reluctance to allow parents to meet new friends
